Baby Jordan http://morelandphoto.com/blog/baby-jordan/ http://morelandphoto.com/blog/baby-jordan/#comments Mon, 25 Oct 2010 14:43:04 +0000 admin http://morelandphoto.com/blog/?p=1511 When I received the call to do a black-and-white  format, four-generation family portrait - I didn’t realize the fourth generation, Baby Jordan, would steal the show.  We had such a great time getting shots of Lisa and little Jordan … and some very special moments were captured by having Great Grandmother, Grandmother and Mom along with Jordan.  By the time this 30-minute mini shoot was over, it felt like we had known each other for years instead of just meeting.  They had selected me to be their photographer from a magazine ad - but then I found out they knew half of my clients. Such a small world!  Just check out this terrific family… Portrait Photographers Atlata 001 Portrait Photographers Atlata 002 Portrait Photographers Atlata 003 Portrait Photographers Atlata 004 Portrait Photographers Atlata 005 Portrait Photographers Atlata 006 Portrait Photographers Atlata 007 Portrait Photographers Atlata 008 Portrait Photographers Atlata 009 Portrait Photographers Atlata 010 Portrait Photographers Atlata 011 Portrait Photographers Atlata 012 Portrait Photographers Atlata 013 Portrait Photographers Atlata 014 Portrait Photographers Atlata 015 Portrait Photographers Atlata 016 Portrait Photographers Atlata 017 Portrait Photographers Atlata 018 Portrait Photographers Atlata 019

2010 Workshops in Atlanta http://morelandphoto.com/blog/2010-workshops-in-atlanta/ http://morelandphoto.com/blog/2010-workshops-in-atlanta/#comments Mon, 02 Aug 2010 14:22:26 +0000 admin http://morelandphoto.com/blog/?p=959

We have a few seats left in our upcoming August two -day workshop in Atlanta and would like you to know about our other 2010 Atlanta Workshops.  Please visit our workshop website at www.morelandphoto.com  for more information.  In brief, I started hands-on workshops three years ago in association with  Moreland Photography, after being contracted by Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and other local groups interested in photography education.  I’ve personally enjoyed putting together these fun, learning workshops and now am focusing more attention to this “interactive” part of my business.  With all the aspiring professional photographers, as well as with so many amateurs, who want to take their photography to the next level  – I’ve developed a series of workshops explained in greater detail on our Moreland website.

The hands-on workshops will be a great investment in yourself and your future photographic career.  I’ve even attended many other workshops and studied to them to put together a product that not only will inspire you – but will teach you action items to implement immediately in your photography.  We’ll feature live models, with signed releases, for you to photograph.  So, you’ll be able to learn by doing and have incredible images to add to your website, blog or portfolio – the very next day!

Don’t have the time for a hands-on workshop?  Then just contact us about our online and custom workshops.  The customized classes can be assembled in other geographic areas.

I also would like you to know about a way to not only book a seat in my workshops – but at other workshops around the country – to allow you choice flexibility.  A directory has been launched that will allow you to search for workshops by state or by specialty.  This is an incredible resource to let you  connect with other top photographers in the business … through an online directory called Fisheye Connect.   Here are site addresses …

Click to sign up for any of our workshops: http://www.fisheyeconnect.com/instructor/1007/mike-moreland/photography-workshops.aspx

Or, go to www.morelandphoto.com to get more information from our workshop website.

Please view the images below to see a small sample of what we’ll teach at the August workshop….

You’ll learn how we pull out expressions in our subjects, find great backgrounds, choose the best lens – and how backlighting can be beautiful lighting!

We’ll show you how to capture sun flare and how some post -processing can enhance  images even  further.

You’ll learn how to create dramatic shots at a wedding – or you can use these same techniques on portrait shoots.  We’ll teach you how to use lighting to enhance your images anywhere -both indoors and outdoors.

Learn how to pull out those expressions and create lifestyle family shots. We’ll cover outdoor lighting, backgrounds, subject clothing … and just how to get your models to actually have fun while being  natural.

At weddings, a photographer is unable to choose the actual wedding hour.  So, we’ll teach you how to create stunning images, no matter what time of day or night the event occurs.  The above image looks like it was shot right around dusk.  However,  it was actually photographed at 4:30 in the afternoon.  We’ll show you these and other  shooting techniques, as well as image post-production.

We’ll thoroughly explain and demonstrate  how to use a single off-camera light to create mood  - and just how to make that late afternoon sky look dark and dramatic.

Learn how to use tungsten lighting to create mood in your images.

Learn how to create dramatic or exhuberant images, just full of life, and find out how to capture the real essence of every subject on which you focus.

We’ll teach you window-light techniques and how to choose backgrounds and props to create the most different and varied looks possible.

Learn how to create dramatic shots like the one above, in just 90 seconds, by spotting a great background.  Learn to shoot, get great shots, then quickly recognize and move on to the next spot.

We’ll show you how to find those great backgrounds to create outstanding shots through lighting, the right clothing and your model’s expressions.

We’ll teach you how to shoot every picture in a session with only window lighting!  You’ll discover that window light is not just about placing someone in front of a window. You’ll learn subtractive lighting – and how to create soft or directional lighting,  all from a window or open door.

Learn how to create symbolic, meaningful images.  We’ll teach you to think  differently when you shoot.

Create maternity shots that are different … by using studio lighting , creative backgrounds and thoughtful approaches.

Without focusing solely on your subjects or clients, fine art pieces can be created.  We’ll show you how to set up and capture these stunning images!

Learn how to use a single light, with a softbox, anywhere.  We’ll show you how to create mood at the same time, taking a hazy summer sky and making  it look dramatic … all just with the camera - without Photoshop.

Learn how to take a typical family portrait and make it something very special – by finding the right location, clothing and lighting.

We’ll show you how to open up your mind and see images in an unusually creative way.

Create wedding images that are strong, memorable and powerful!

Are you tired of doing engagement shoots at the local park?  We’ll discuss great locations with emphasis on shooting at the right time of day and thinking outside the box.

Learn how to combine the creative with the technical. We’ll teach you how to create mood in your images by shooting at the right time of day – and calibrating your white balance to the proper setting for this look.  Also, just how using a portable tungsten light can help you create incredibly dramatic images.

Learn how to create amazing infrared images with people!

We’ll show you how we create composites.  Your imagination will be running in overtime!

We’ll actually teach you, step-by-step, how we design creative and unique albums.

We’ll teach you how to photograph your subject, at a studio or anywhere, with three lights to create great lighting – then, by shooting a background with HDR photography, just how to combine those images together.  Whether you want a sport poster or single dramatic image, we’ll show you how to maintain a library of backgrounds on your computer to create very cool, combined images.  This technique will allow you to create dramatic lighting that you couldn’t use on location – and will show you how having your own library of images can automatically give you creative flexibility without running all over town.   We’ll demonstrate just how HDR photography can make those backgrounds excitingly dramatic.

Moreland workshops are limited to only 15 people.   Get ready to have a great time and learn.  Sign up soon!  Hope to see you there….Mike Moreland.

The Beyer Family http://morelandphoto.com/blog/the-beyer-family/ http://morelandphoto.com/blog/the-beyer-family/#comments Mon, 31 May 2010 21:27:11 +0000 admin http://morelandphoto.com/blog/?p=580 Amy called and asked to capture her family relaxed outside and just having fun, but also she wanted a dance portrait of her daughter.  So, that’s exactly what we did, roaming the grounds of the studio and just letting them have fun with some creative flair.  Did I mention that I love the late afternoon light?

Elliott Family http://morelandphoto.com/blog/elliott-family/ http://morelandphoto.com/blog/elliott-family/#comments Wed, 14 Apr 2010 14:45:28 +0000 admin http://morelandphoto.com/blog/?p=128

After we photographed Lindsey’s shoot, Debra wanted me to do some family shots this past fall, So we took the family all around our studio and just let them have fun.  That was not hard because they knew how to have fun and not only did we get some great shots but we designed an incredible Christmas card for them.

I love this shot of mom and dad with the kids in the background.  Capturing expressions is what I absolutely love doing.
