Photography workshop | Introduction for Beginners

Our photography workshop is a very good opportunity for anyone with an inclined interest towards photography, whether you are a beginner or already in the field, these workshops lead ones way to learning new things, to push start and your dreams of being able to replicate your vision via the art of photography. For this workshop we had with us 4 models, all are very talented, we got some amazing shots with them, they maintained versatility in the poses, looks, which made it even more fun to play around with the deliverable. With 4 models it was easier for our students to take pictures, as they didn’t have to pounce for every pose to get the picture of their satisfaction. Hands on photography workshops are great for easy learning as the instructor gives a personal touch and it becomes easier to clear your doubts on every step, which is usually not the case when one refers to videos. One of our models was Katie Belle Akin, and these beautiful pictures are just the trailer for her talent. Katie is a pop star in making, also a model, knows her audience and what she is doing. Zoe is one of our talented interns who volunteered to model for this workshops, we have already dedicated a blog about this cool senior. Roger Smith models with us all the time and it is always good to have him back. As for the beautiful upcoming model Mariam, she is building her portfolio for her career in modeling. The workshops are great as we get to work with new people, also we got to personally know them and they are all a pleasure to work with.

Roswell Senior Photography | Talented musician Andrew Hartley

This Roswell Senior Photography was fun for all of us. After a brief session of consultation, we got to know that Andrew Hartley is a very talented senior who plays 4 different kinds of musical instruments. ” He is his own band “, as many call him. He is also in the High-school Marching Band. His favorite instrument being the electric guitar we took a shots with the Graffiti wall. Some shots with the city skyline. We have previously done the senior portrait of Andrew’s elder sister and brother which was covered in the Roswell area. Andrew and his mom did not want the same generic shoot around Roswell they wanted something different, so went to the Atlanta city to get some shots and moved around did some at the paintball fields in the outdoors as he loves paintball. Him being in the marching band was an important part of his high-school, so we went there and took a few pictures of him playing the instrument in his marching uniform. We even clicked a few casual pictures of him.

Hartleys have been a clients for quite some time now, we know they wanted a senior book for Andrew as well just like they did for his brother and sister, so we made sure we create a story and shoot around his interests and what he is like. This out of the many other things made him and his mom very happy as we covered his portrait along with his interests. we wish Andrew the best, we are sure there are great things in store for him, and that he achieves all the amazing things in life just like him.

College Senior Portrait | Evan Patterson Travel Enthusiast

Evan well known for his love for travel came in for his college senior portrait shoot to us. Like always I first had my consultation session with him to get to know him better, this is what I do for giving in all the personal touches in our shoots. In the process I got to know some things like how he is graduating from The University of Florida, and how travelling is not only his hobby but his passion, he loves to visit new places and discovering different cultures. He is crazy about airplanes and even has a flying license and also a flying simulator of his own at home, he owns a BMW which is very close to his heart. Keeping this in mind, I remembered that I have contacts at the Peachtree Dekalb Airport, so it was time to call in for a favor, after getting all the permissions we did one little part of our shoot here, with Evan’s BMW and the airplane in the background, this made him really happy. Being the Sports guy he is, we had props to photograph him with like basketball. Evan has many classic model cars, so we even incorporated those too in the shoot. We clicked at the studio for formal portrait and with his family. At our favorite waterfall we did some family shots and then a few individual shots of Evan with a little rustic background. We made 2 different books for him, one with his pictures and the other with his family. Evan’s mom wanted seventy % of Evan and thirty % of family shots, we made sure of that. She asked for 10 copies of The Evan book to handout to their relatives. We have different layouts for our books that we provide our clients. We wish the best to the Patterson Family.

Atlanta Wedding Workshop | Creative Edge Photography Workshop

Location? check! Hair? check! Makeup? check! Flower arrangements? check! Car? check! check! check! You name what you want and we got it for your dream wedding. Along with the immense help from Pollyanna Richter, we put together a great wedding workshop with our most trusted vendors for an amazing learning experience for our students. This workshop shoot had 3 brides looking jaw dropping, with one handsome groom. The whole thing helped the students learn as to how to get great shots even under pressure, which a photographer experiences during a real wedding shoot. From getting the detailed shots of the accessories, dresses and the wedding cards, the pre-wedding shoot with the bride all dolled up and of course the groom as well, the flower arrangements every thing has to be kept in mind when doing a wedding shoot, these are the things that they want to remember no matter how small or big.

Then we even emphasized on the wedding venue, which was ‘Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta’, we used the architectural perspective to get some aesthetically pleasing shots. We wrapped up the whole shoot by getting some nice shots which had somewhat Bridal Fashion Shoot feel, keeping in mind the city lights at dusk we got the picturesque compositions that gave a nice dramatic feel and the students got a lot to learn about the lighting and the angles by the end of the workshop.

Buckhead Maternity and Newborn Portrait | Cam, Adrian & Christopher

Spreading love left, right and center our Buckhead Maternity and newborn portrait client, CAM, seemed like she was meant for the CAMera. Her vibrant smile, her sense of humor, didn’t only give us the perfect shots but made the whole thing a fun experience. Cam has a soft corner for goats, she herself owns 2 (and to add to the obsession a Goat dog, or well that’s what she likes to call Luna). The moment she got to know that I too own a goat, she being the amazing person she is, got gifts (i.e. hay and feed) for my goat to earn her cooperation as she wanted them to be a part of her maternity shoot. Cam got very impressed with the variety of maternity dresses I have to offer my clients, and she did justice to every dress by looking stunning in each and every picture. Our personal favorite being the ones in front of the Waterfall, she looks like her majestic self, flawless and elegant. Where later Adrian joined her, only to melt our hearts with all that love.

The New Born Photo shoot took place at their lovely house at Buckhead as Cam and Adrian both wanted a friendly and familiar environment for the little one. She had a vision for these shoots, where she wanted to capture the nature of their relationship, father and the baby, baby and the mother, all of them together and even the two goats and Luna guarding Christopher Prince which turned out to be the most adorable shoot ever. She even had a little crown for Christopher which we used as props for one of the shoots, keeping in mind his middle name that is Prince. And well he ruled us with his cuteness. The shoot with the Gators’ Props was a personal touch as Adrian graduated from the University of Florida.

Lacrosse senior Photography | Zoe – Roswell High School

Fine in her appearance, fine in her sport, Zoe a lacrosse senior all star, has one more year of high school to go before she sets off for her journey to Cincinnati for which she bagged a full scholarship and she is very excited for the same as she gets to begin a new chapter of her life from the suburbs to the happening city. Over the past 5 months Zoe has been a part of Moreland Photography and it has been wonderful to have her here with us, she lights up the room with her warm smile. She has previously modeled for us voluntarily for the workshops and it just kept getting better with every click. As it is visible in the shoots, she loves accessorizing herself, and well she looks effortless in every picture. Inspired by the previous senior portrait that Zoe was a part of as an intern, we went ahead with the tranquil water and the morning misty haze which made her look like the angel she is. Next, we did the shoot at the mill, contrast of the rustic backdrop and her serene self was what she was aiming for. Zoe grew up with horses and her mom wanted her senior pictures to represent that as it was a huge part of her childhood. Zoe personally wanted to incorporate the lacrosse part of her life as she has been committed to the sport since she was 8. In one of the shoots she is seen sporting a chic outfit in front of the city skyline. People usually describe her as easy going, kind, giggly, fashion lover, these are indeed her best traits which we can be seen in her shoots. We wish Zoe the best for her future and hope she becomes the star she strives to be ( Honestly, she already is one for our team).

The Kahn’s Birth shoot

The Piedmont Hospital birth shoot for the Kahn family was defiantly one for the books! Being a parent is both the most stressful and most rewarding time in anyone’s life. We love being able to get to capture all the little moments that make the birth of a baby so special from the family waiting in the waiting room to the delivering of the baby in the birthing room. Special moments include the emotions of the parents right down to the babies measurements, foot printing, weighing, and first bath. Before the Piedmont Hospital birth shoot for the Kahn family, we captured the memories before the babies arrival by having the privilege to do their maternity shoot a few months earlier. There was never a dull moment during the Kahn’s birth shoot from family visiting before it was time for the baby to come to Mr. Kahn’s ecstatic emotions throughout the birth. Aziz did not falter for one moment to express his emotions and support for his wife through her 6 hour birthing process of delivering their 7.3 pound baby boy. After the arrival of the healthy baby, Aziz could hardly hold back his tears of joy which were equally shared with Mrs. Kahn’s father after receiving the news that he was officially a grandfather. Anyone in the waiting room could almost feel the amount of happiness the filled the air followed by endless amounts of hugs.

The whole family was overjoyed to hear that the baby had been born and eagerly followed Aziz back to meet the newest member to the family. As the whole family came together to welcome the new baby, smiles were abundant and seemed forever lasting.

Photographing births are perfect for both celebrating new life and the hard work that goes into child labor. We certainly enjoyed being able to photograph the first memories of the Kahn’s baby boy so that they can cherish them for years to come!

New born and Maternity shoot

Becoming a parent is an exciting time and by bringing new life into the world there is a cause for celebration! We love being able to get to know our clients in order to do a shoot that most accurately represents them, and we thoroughly enjoyed being able to work with the Kohli’s with their maternity shoot as well as their new born shoot.Mr. and Mrs. Kohli met with us prior to the shoot to brows our our collection of custom maternity dresses and coordinate the best outdoor locations for each dress. The white flowing dress was perfect in capturing Mrs. Kohli’s elegance with the open grass fields and white rolling clouds, the purple dress Mrs. Kohli wore in the gardens with Mr. Kohli really captured the beauty of the family to be as well as the beauty of the garden surrounding them, and lastly the stunning red dress Mrs. Kohli wore on the rocks of a flowing stream made her pop against the waterfall at dusk. The Kohli’s formal outdoors maternity shoot was just the beginning of our journey with the them, we also had the pleasure to visit them at their 27th story apartment overlooking downtown Atlanta to shoot their new born baby boy!

Though we had to come back another day to shoot due to bad weather the Kohli’s apartment was perfect to be able to capture their everyday life in the comfort of their own home featuring baby Ashton! For the new born shoot in contrast to the maternity shoot was more about capturing lifestyle and capturing the intimacy between Mr. and Mrs. Kohli with Ashton. Ashton was able to sleep for most of the shots we were able to capture of him but we were able to catch him awake for a family photo on the balcony catching the sunset and city lights of Atlanta in the background.

Maternity and new born shoots are both perfect ways to celebrate body and life and we certainly enjoyed being able to capture memories for the Kohli family to cherish for years to come!

Kelsey Hall Senior Portraits

Taking Milton senior photographer, Kelsey Hall’s portraits at the Roswell Mill and at a horse stable in the beautiful Alpharetta countryside was such an amazing experience for us! We first had the pleasure of meeting Kelsey Hall through a mutual connection in the photography world and are so glad that we did. This casual outdoors shoot was one for the books. Kelsey Hall is a yearbook Milton senior photographer who currently attends Kings Ridge Christian Academy and is the most humble and sweet girl you will ever meet!

Having a love for horses and nature, Kelsey Hall incorporated both passions into her senior portraits. Being a more casual shoot to fit Kelsey’s more down to earth personality, we started at the Roswell Mill and then migrated to the stable where Kelsey boards her horse Daisy. At the Mill all focus was capturing the purity of Kelsey and the nature surrounding her, being a Milton senior photographer Kelsey wanted her portraits to reflect who she is. Kelsey explained to us that she loves trees and wishes to study the environment in college so the Roswell Mill’s waterfall and lush forestry was the perfect back drop. Having the weather on our side, we shot again later that afternoon at the Alpharetta horse stable where Kelsey keeps her gorgeous Palomino horse, Daisy. We learned that Daisy has been a beloved family member of the Hall family for 8 years and it only seemed right to have Kelsey take portraits at the stable! It wasn’t only Daisy that got to share the spotlight with Kelsey, Mom, Dad, and even mans best friend got to join in too! Overall it was a lovely day being able to create and preserve memories with the Hall family.

We did a custom design shoot for the Kelsey and the Hall family so that they can cherish the memories for years to come!

Spring Maternity Shoot | Ravaan +Lynell

Ravaan and Lynell were looking for something different in their spring maternity shoot. Everywhere they looked, Lynell and Ravaan had seen the same photos with different people, and that was not a “trend” they wanted to be a part of. Rather than blending in to all of the other maternity pictures out there, they wanted to think outside the box with unique and creative photographs, and stand out. Lynell wanted to ensure a romantic and nature based theme that incorporated her passion for fashion. She even bought some of her own dresses to bring to the shoot! Lynell chose flowy and feminine dresses for her soon to be baby girl. She looked stunning and beautiful in her dresses. We were impressed by how she gracefully navigated the rocks near the waterfall while being 8 months pregnant! That’s hard to do! It was incredible how well the wind cooperated that day and made some wonderful wind-blown pictures! They turned out so great, the Guytons came back for a newborn shoot!

Luxury Newborn | Meet Ce’zzane

Our story with Dianne begins 12 years before her luxury newborn shoot, when she won a free bridal shoot from us! We have been photographing Dianne ever since, from her stunning magazine shoots to adorable family portraits. We were so thrilled when she called us to photograph her newborn baby girl, Ce’zzane! Dianne incorporated many family items in the nursery, such as her mother’s veil and the little presents with pink flower bows that were center pieces at her wedding; the nursery bed has actual pieces of the lace from Dianne’s mother’s wedding dress sewn into it! Dianne’s mother even made a little bikini for Ce’zzane to wear in the picture for their lake house! These little pieces of history are what made this shoot so unique and fun! Little Ce’zzane was incredibly easy to work with.

Leah Monet | Senior Portrait

Leah Monet is a beautiful, multi-talented 17-year-old high school student from Newnan, Georgia, and what a treat it has been to work with her in this Outdoor Senior Portrait session! Since she began coming to Moreland Photography when she was just 12 years old, she is always a pleasure to work with! From singing to acting to modeling to playing guitar, there are so many wonderful things Leah is into that made doing her senior portraits quite the experience. For her photo session, we spent an entire afternoon at the Roswell Paper Mill where Leah brought her guitar to show off her interests as being a singer-song writing artist. Then we captured photos that tailored to Leah’s modeling talents without her instrument. Leah looked absolutely stunning in an all-white dress down by the tranquil water, then she sported an edgier look underneath the covered bridge in her jeans and fur coat vest. After the Mill, we went to a straw field where Leah was photographed with “1” and “7” balloons, which represented both her age as well as her year of graduation! It’s almost like we planned that! Lastly, Leah came back to the Moreland studios to do an indoor-studio shoot where she looked beautiful in a sweater both on the floor as well as propped up in a chair. Then she switched to a black dress to do more of a classic senior portrait styled shot. Recently, Leah has taken her modeling interests to even greater heights by participating in several of Mike’s workshops, and has transferred the knowledge and skills she has gained into shooting her own senior portraits for some of her friends and classmates. We have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Leah’s growth and participation with Moreland Photography, and we are excited to see what is in store for her bright future.

Intimate Newborn Photography | Meet Lucas

In this intimate newborn shoot, we revisited our friends, Karien and Raphael, to meet their new baby boy, Lucas. Before Lucas was born, we took Karien’s maternity photographs. Karien and Raphael are all about family and relationships, and we really wanted to express that with pictures of Lucas and his parents. We brought the shoot to the Rodriguez family’s house, and set up a small studio inside and outside with natural lighting and a few props. Their sweet pup even took part in the action as we incorporated him in some images to give an even more relational feel. The parents loved seeing their newborn’s photographs, and asked to have a wall portrait printed of him and a baby book made to tell the story of their sweet growing family. The Rodriguez family has been a delight to work with! Such a beautiful family! We loved seeing your family grow, and we will love to hear how Lucas will grow into an amazing man! Thank you Rodriguez family!

Spring Maternity Session, Roswell | Karien + Raphael

When Karien and Raphael approached Atlanta Maternity Photographer Mike Moreland about doing their Spring Maternity shoot, we knew we had to capture these moments. Bringing life into the world is an experience like no other. This beautiful moment brings a new intimacy into a couple’s life like never before. We wanted to create the story of new life and new beginnings as this amazing couple prepares to bring their son, Lucas, into the world. Multiple locations were used in order to portray the different moments and feelings felt by the couple. Karien wanted the shoot to be held outside in a more casual, calm environment to embellish on the maternity feel. Raphael wanted to have a few photos done together in the studio barn to really express their love as a couple. He is very caring and calm in helping his bride throughout the whole process. The small moccasins are incredibly adorable, displaying her readiness to bring Lucas into the world! She looks serene standing out in the meadow with her silken dress, gazing out into the horizon. Her photos in front of the wisteria covered gate are absolutely gorgeous! The flowers really add to her elegance, standing beside her loving groom. Lying by Raphael in the flowers really expresses their undying love for each other. Karien’s beauty is truly unrivaled when standing by the river in the blue flowing dress. She was collected and confident standing by the brook, looking magnificent beside Raphael. Moreland Photography had an incredible time capturing this lovely couple! Karien was brilliant in the way she handled these moments, working with Raphael hand in hand every step of the way. They had many intimate moments, sharing this time with their unborn son and bringing them ever closer together. We can’t wait to see Lucas when he finally arrives!

Woodstock Photographer | Scheib Family 2016

We are excited to work with Blakely and Gavin once again! Woodstock Photographer Mike Moreland has been with the Scheib Family since before the time of Gavin’s birth, capturing all of the shining moments along the way. We are telling the wonderful story between the handsome Gavin and the sweet Blakely. The focus of the shoot was on Blakey turning 2, but the bond between brother and sister quickly took over. The private location of Magnolia Pond spans over many rolling green acres, with fields of hay and secluded, quiet ponds. Keeping in mind that our goal was for the kids to be kids, we focused on allowing for as many candid moments between them as possible. This adventure’s first stop took the brother and sister to a lovely straw field where we captured Blakely playing and dancing, her curly blonde hair shining like gold in the sunlight. Gavin rushed onto the field in jealousy, wanting to have more of his pictures taken, making Blakely laugh and squeal with delight. Blakely blew on some dandelions, giggling as the seeds drifted into her brother’s hair. Walking along the gravel roads we found them sharing a moment, holding hands and talking as only brother and sister could do. This moment was short-lived however, as Blakely started stamping her feet while Gavin was taking his turn. Their walk took them to the docks of a still, green pond where we captured Blakely against the reflective waters in her flowing yellow dress. Finally, we met up with dad where the kids monkeyed around, climbing all over him as we photographed them in their natural habitat together. The Scheib’s are incredible to work with, allowing their kids to be themselves and roam around in amazement as only children can. Seeing them grow up together as a family over the past 5 years has been beautiful, with Moreland Portrait Photography perfectly capturing these moments of pure bliss.

Newborn Portraits | Meet Brooklyn – Atlanta Newborn

Ashley and Zach have been come back clients for us many times now! Our relationship did not begin with newborn portraits, but began when we photographed their wedding at the Ritz Carlton Lodge. Less than a year later, they’re expecting their first baby, and it’s an adorable baby girl! A few months before Brooklyn was due to arrive, we photographed Ashley and Zach’s maternity images as well! Ashley and Zach are a pleasure to work with as I brought the studio to their home to meet their newest addition to the family. Typically, I bring props and clothing for the photoshoot from my studio; however, Ashley and Zach also had some of their own props they wanted to use! Ashley had bright, colorful tutus and precious headbands with tulle and lace flowers to dress her little girl in. Brooklyn was as sweet as could be and was happy to dress up for her close up! We are delighted to have taken part in so many special events with you, McKinney family, and cannot wait to continue to photograph for your family!

Zoey is a precious Smyrna newborn who was so peaceful and calm during this shoot. We photographed her mom’s maternity pictures not too long ago, and it’s good to finally meet their sweet newborn. One thing we did unique to this shoot is incorporated her mother’s wedding dress! We knew we were going to shoot some photos of Zoey in her nursery, and so we had to do something fun to tie it all together. We put a little crown on her head and dressed her in a bright pink tutu to match! We also took some pictures of Zoey with Lauren and Brad. Newborn sessions are special because of the precious bond between newborn parents and their first child. Our clients come to us because we provide quality work they can trust. After Zoey’s newborn session, Lauren and Brad filled their home with large, professional quality canvas and wall portraits. Sweet Senior of Blessed Trinity | Meet Maria

Oh how would you like to meet this sweet senior?! Maria is a current senior at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. Maria’s mother came to us after hearing about us from a few close friends. At first, Maria was planning to have a short and sweet senior session, but she changed her mind when she realized she had more than one look in mind for her pictures. Maria and her friends loved to go and watch the sunset over the lake, so we incorporated this memorable place into her pictures. She also loved the tall grass look, so we took some photos in an open field with tall grass as well. She brought some fun boots and a beautiful smile, and her smile was radiant! We loved working with Maria and cannot wait to see how she continues to bring light into the lives of everyone she meets throughout her sweet senior year and beyond! Hiram High School Class of 2014 | Olivia – Moreland Photography

Somewhere in the halls of Hiram High School, there’s a beautiful senior who goes by the name of Olivia. She might seem like an ordinary student, keeping up grades, lots of friends. But what you may not know about Olivia are all of her incredible talents. Some time ago, probably when Taylor Swift became a worldwide phenomenon, Olivia taught herself how to play the guitar from watching YouTube videos. You’ll see we captured some of her hobbies in her Senior Picture Sessions. We also took pictures of her older sister when she was a senior, so Olivia was determined to do everything differently! We ventured to several locations to capture the looks and styles of fashionable Senior pictures. We started with her guitar and a relaxing setting out in the sticks with barns and animal wildlife! As you scroll through you’ll notice that Olivia has eyes like a Tiger! Stunning in every image we took! Afterwards we got a small concert, and then we headed to phase II! The formal attire! Like every girl, Olivia likes to get dolled up! She was on the homecoming court at Hiram High School, so she had many options to choose from as we went to the stunning backdrop of the city! With the city lights and the sparkles of the dress, Olivia is a show-stopper!

To Olivia, good luck with your senior year! We look forward to hearing from your mom about what amazing things you’ll accomplish in your future! And to mom, we hope you have a cheerful upcoming Anniversary!

We had a gorgeous outdoor maternity shoot with Lauren and Brad recently. We adventured out into some new settings outside as Lauren prepares to bring new life into the world. It was extra humid this day, but Lauren was a champ! Our favorites are from our trek into the Chattahoochee River. The water was freezing and the light was fading fast, but we captured some of our favorite maternity pictures to date! Meet Zain, an adventurous baseball player with a love for Lord of the Rings. Zain’s mom wanted to be able to capture this happy and energetic time in his life with some kids portrait photography, so when she asked us to photograph him, we were thrilled! Zain enjoys being outside, whether it be on a tire swing, the baseball field, walking to school, or engaging in some live action role play (also know as larping). We really saw him come to life as he acted out some of his favorite scenes from Lord of the Rings! Zain was all smiles when he was diving around the baseball field getting dirty while we took some action shots. And of course, what cooler photo for a baseball player than to be Photo-shopped into Turner Field!?

Meet Olivia, a good friend of ours here at Mike Moreland photography. This free spirited senior from Walton High School loves to be in front of the camera. Olivia’s family has been a part of many of the workshops that I host and more recently, Olivia has begun to model at our workshops. Her passion for modeling made to taking her artistic senior portraits a blast! Olivia wanted her senior portraits to be exciting, artistic and expressive – a true reflection of her! It was going to take more than just one location to capture this vibrant senior’s personality. Over a few days we had the opportunity to explore all over Georgia to create the perfect album of senior portraits for Olivia. From rushing waterfalls to stony caverns and all the way back to the historic Atlanta skyline, we photographed it all! In many of Olivia’s images, you’ll see that she really knows how to work the camera. This upcoming model is a true natural! Lights, Camera, Action! I had a great time shooting with Georgia, a vibrant actress and senior at Walton High School. This charismatic, fun loving Georgia native is on the road to Hollywood. From the city to the barn, we ventured out to several different locations to capture the many facets of her diverse lifestyle. To begin, we decided to try out some city senior portraits. In Atlanta, Georgia gave us her most dramatic looks among the marble stairways and brick walls of the city. We even found Georgia’s name among the flashing lights of the Fox theater! Her city senior portraits were nothing short of glamorous! Not only can Georgia awe her Walton classmates and local Atlantans with her theater performances but she also loves playing guitar. So, we took a trip to the country fields and got to see another side of her personality. With her leather boots, cowgirl hat and acoustic guitar, we were able to snag some fantastic shots of this sweet southern girl. In every image, her blue green eyes dazzled in the sunlit, grassy fields of her hometown. From her edgy city senior portraits to the her sweet smiles in the green fields, it’s clear to see that Georgia is a natural in front of the camera! Nature Maternity | Ashley’s Atlanta Photography

This beautiful nature Maternity shoot is of Ashley and Zack. I had photographed their wedding a year prior at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge. They are some of the most loving people I have ever met. They had called telling me the good news; they are expecting a baby girl! We had a consultation where we came up with ideas to have a pink filled nature maternity shoot. Ashley is very down to earth and wanted to really take advantage of the beauty of her surroundings. She had seen some shots I had done with other couples and wanted some similar aspects done. Ashley brought some dresses and I also gave her one to wear. We started taking photos in the barn by our studio then moved to a beautiful field then eventually went to the waterfall to top it all off. Ashley and Zack are a wonderful couple to work with and being able to spend the day with them was a pleasure. They know how to make any moment funny and memorable. Their little baby is due soon and we can not wait to welcome her to the family! She will be as amazing, funny, and charismatic as her parents, I’m sure of it!

Blessed Trinity Seniors | Austin – Moreland Photography

Happy Happy Happy! That is the definition of this Blessed Trinity Senior! He’s the purest example of a good ole’ country boy, loving all things Jesus, fishing, his truck, his dog and football! Austin is a starting linebacker for Blessed Trinity. He plays on both the offense and defense. We’ve been working on his senior pictures all summer long traveling from one location to another planning the perfect photo sessions! Thanks mom We started at their beautiful home, capturing Austin where’s he relaxed. Then we headed to the lake house where Austin is king of the water! Let me just say, for a linebacker, he makes wake-boarding look effortless! His best bud is always at his side, as good ole’ country boy that only makes sense! We waited for the opportune lighting for some sharp shots of his beloved tricked up truck! I went to several of this season’s football games where Blessed Trinity made it all the way to the quarter finals and earned the title Regional Champions! Outdoor Maternity Shoot | Henna + Ahsan – Atlanta Maternity Photography

I had a feeling when I first came in contact with Ahsan and Henna what the type of setting that would be best for their outdoor maternity shoot. We insist on a pre-shoot consultation with each client to make sure that we pick locations that would best fit our clients’ expectations. My earlier instinct that I has made was confirmed. Ahsan and Henna have such warm spirits and care so deeply about each other as well as everyone around them; I knew that a shoot surrounding them with the natural environment would be perfect. An outdoor maternity shoot brings about a calming and serene feeling which fits this couple perfectly. The love that Ahsan and Henna have for each other can be felt immediately by any onlooker of the photograph. Photographing this shoot was simple, because the love that this couple has for each other is so strong. They will be expecting their first child, Zara, soon. Knowing the bundle of joy will be a pure reflection of her parents, we look forward to Zara’s newborn shoot in a couple of weeks.

Creative Maternity Photo Ideas- Pregnant on the River | Moreland Photography

We have known Anna for some time as she’s been a model for us for Creative Edge Photography Workshops. When she came to Mike with the great news of their expecting a new arrival, Mike knew they had to do something he’s never done before! She had two ideas, so we split the shoot into two session. So we packed up all the gear, waited for the last possible warm day and headed down to the Chattahoochee River, where we did thought of very creative maternity photo ideas! We had so much fun and the sun came out always at the perfect time! We had someone watching over this Atlanta maternity photographer! By the end of the shoot we had captured so many beautiful images we can’t wait to put them on the walls at our studio! People might think we have a shrine to Anna! Congratulations on the baby Anna! Classy Maternity | Jina – Moreland Photography

Having a baby is such a beautiful part of life. The experiences of pregnancy are like no other. Jina and her husband are having their third baby! They have a beautiful family. So when Jina’s third pregnancy was little ways along, we contacted her about doing a classy maternity session. We met Jina a long time ago at one of our Photography Workshops. We became close friends and are extremely proud to say she is now an amazing, very successful portrait photographer! But even the best photographers in the world cannot take their own maternity pictures! We headed to the Jina’s home where they have a lovely nursery all ready for their newest arrival! The room had a gorgeous west facing window, which means perfect window lighting, a photographers dream! Because this is their third child, we wanted to include her other two girls who are excited to have a new baby sister!! So we set up mom and the girls and took some adorable family-to-be pictures. I had a lot of ideas going into this session, I wanted to keep the light simple and just produce classy maternity pictures. The lighting in Jina’s bedroom was tricky, but I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome! The light had the ability to be dramatic, but also very graceful at the same time! We got so absorbed in taking pictures inside Jina’s home, that we almost ran out of sunlight! The plan was to also take some family pictures with Jina’s mom outdoors, so we hurried to our pre-determined location! The sun was already behind the trees, but that won’t stop us! We all know where Jina gets her gorgeous looks from-mom! They look so much alike! We hope you enjoy these images from Jina’s Maternity Session! We had a blast working with you again Jina, keep us posted on baby three!

Elegant Maternity | Luciaetta and Chris

Luciattea and Chris were a delight to shoot for their elegant maternity session! From the first time you take a look at these two, you can tell how classy and regal they are. Their pictures scream sophistication which is exactly what they are; sophisticated. With three different locations and three outfits, Luciaetta looked breathtakingly gorgeous in everything she wore. The shots at the estate turned out phenomenal! They looked as though they were billionaires from the early 20th century. With every shot taken, you could really tell how in love they are. The elegance didn’t stop there. The garden shoot was definitely more relaxed, the sophistication was still there. Chris and Luciaetta loosened up a bit and we were able to capture some genuine and truly romantic moments. Finally, the waterfall shots were absolutely amazing. Luciaetta was radiating with confidence and beautiful. The way her dress flowed really captured her true essence. These shots displayed the pure love Chris has for her. With every step Luciaetta took, it was like there was a gravitational pull between her and Chris. No matter how formal the elegant maternity shots were, you can still get a sense of their personalities and love for one another through their photos. We can’t wait to meet Miss Simone and to be able to capture some of her first moments. There’s no doubt she will be just as radiant as her mother.

Atlanta Senior Photos | Caroline – Class of 2016

We have a new addition to our Atlanta Senior Photos! Say hello to Caroline! This radiant senior has modeled for us before at some of our photography workshops, so I knew she was a natural in front of the camera! Caroline wanted something very different and edgy for her senior shoot, and that is exactly what we gave her! We headed into the city and found many locations to fit her vision perfectly. We were even able to take some shots on top of the roof of a building, that had a view of the classic gorgeous Atlanta skyline! Caroline was more than excited! Her personality really shined through when I was able to capture her passion for dance, having her take some jump shots in front of the beautiful skyline! Later on she suggested we take some dramatic shots, so we waited until night fall to capture her in front of a luminous ferris wheel that shines just as bright as she does. Woodward Academy – Trevor Class of 2016

The wonderful feeling of completing your high school years! A moment to share for Woodward Academy’s 2016 senior, Trevor, leaving with a big smile. As a Woodward Academy senior, Trevor gave a warmth for those close to him and his face reads calm and relaxed. His sailing is one of his favorite hobbies that keeps him happy, happy, HAPPY! His love for trucks rings true to being Georgia born and bred. The Woodward Academy Letterman is no joke either! Trevor wears his heart on his sleeve with pride from lacrosse, swimming, and hockey. Lacrosse seems to be a sport for Trevor’s “cool” to come into play. Hockey, however, is a whole other sport. From the second Trevor hits the ice, his actions show skill and teamwork used to make his game winning shot. Trevor and his teammates celebrate in true hockey fashion: this is what friendship looks like. If hockey and lacrosse wasn’t enough to keep a high school senior either, Trevor frequents swimming with the GA Tech swim team for practice.Trevor makes juggling all these sports and straight A’s look easy. Underwater Maternity Photography | Jessica – Moreland Photography

There’s a first time for everything, and we had so much fun trying our hand at underwater maternity photography. Jessica approached us with a vision, and we never turn down a client with such unique ideas. We came across a lot of challenges, but Jessica was patient and a great model.We rented an underwater housing unit for the camera and went to work! It took a lot of wonderful connections, with some tips from many friends but the end product is pretty cool! Because this was a maternity session and not just an average underwater portrait session, we went in knowing we had to work with Jessica and monitor her closely. She’s not due until the end of April, but a swimming pregnant lady should still take it easy. We started in the shallow end with some above/below water pictures. These images turned out so graceful and lovely. Jessica is just glowing with beauty. The lighting falls perfectly on her skin! We did our research before going into this shoot, so we were prepared with many things, long colored fabrics being one of them. The way fabric floats and bends and catches light underwater is unlike anything else! Also unlike anything else, once the fabric gets wet it gets extremely heavy. So to air on the side of caution, we always had a swimmer near Jessica to take the fabric from her. Often times trading her floats for the fabric. After playing with lighting in the shallow end we ventured into the deep end. Jessica was amazing! Looking graceful underwater isn’t easy! There are so many things to think about that come across as ‘ugly’ in the final product if you’re not paying attention! But Jessica truly shined! She pointed her toes, looked at the camera and made swimming with fabric look effortless. I hope more people want to do underwater maternity photography. It was such a neat experience and there’s only one way to go when trying something new!

Jessica, we hope you love these images. We had a lot of fun trying your vision and we hope we succeeded! Thank you for your patience while we figured out settings, and new tricks! We can’t wait for round two but in the meantime enjoy the images and the last few months of pregnancy! You’re going to make a great mom!

Atlanta, Roswell Children Ballet Portraits | Morgan Aspinwall

Morgan Aspinwall, a ballet prodigy, and her mother wanted to have a child ballet shoot that allowed Morgan to show everyone her fun-loving personality. Being the ballet star she is, Morgan spends quite a bit of her time perfecting her skills, so when her mother asked us to photograph her to bring out her playful, childlike side, we were thrilled! She filled the air with energy and was so much fun to work with. We photographed her on a tree swing, riding her bike through a grass field, and by a water fall having a tea party with her bear. She giggled, laughed, and enjoyed herself while we snapped pictures. Coming towards the end of the shoot, we took a few, more dramatic ballet shots because, after all, ballet is a passion of hers. Morgan, we wish you the best in your ballet career, and hope to see you again soon!

When Carol Ann told me Adeline was turning three, loves trains and was having a train themed birthday party, I knew exactly where we should go to do her 3 year old shoot. Pictures of the two girls in their beautiful Matilda Jane clothing with the train backgrounds made all of these shots look like a magazine ad. Happy 3rd Birthday Adeline!!!

With buses printed on their dresses we had to do some shots in front of the old buses. Very Cute!

Roswell Twin Portraits | Meet the Caillo Twins

Sophia and Daniel’s mother wanted a few fun portraits made for her fun loving twins. She told us the only pictures she really had was a few school yearbook portraits, but she wanted some to hang in the house that really showed their personality. The twins are pair of fun, competitive, and smart siblings. In the images, their mother wanted a few casual, fun photographs of them playing around and really being themselves with each other. We started the shoot with the twins together at our barn studio, and took some separate photos to get allow them to each have some individuality. Next, we took them down to an open field where they raced and laughed in the tall grass. The twins love reading, so to show some more of their personality through the shoot, we photographed them reading with piles of some of their favorites. Finally, their mother wanted a few dressier shots, so Sophia and Daniel dressed up and put their dancing shoes on! We took a few photos of the twins individually, and they danced until they could not anymore. Sophia and Daniel brought so much enthusiasm and liveliness to the shoot and we hope to see them again soon! Thanks Sophia and Daniel!

King’s Ridge Senior Anna Kate | Class of 2016

Exploding with excitement like fireworks, we have King’s Ridge Senior Class of 2016’s Miss Anna Kate! Anna Kate has always been the type of person to be on a path different from everyone else. Even when it came to getting her Senior pictures taken, she did not want her photos to be like everyone else at her high school. She is different and she is special. And she wants that to be shown. Anna Kate met up with me and we went over ideas for different spaces where we can capture her individuality. One was this abandoned railroad track, which she loved. We incorporated her yearbook and her camera into the photos as well because she is the editor for her school’s yearbook. Towards to end, we also added her sisters in to show the love she has for siblings. Congrats Anna Kate! I wish you all the best in this new chapter in your life at the University of Georgia.

Keep reading for a few sneak peaks. You’ll get great clothing inspiration, as well as posing ideas. Posing ideas should come from your photographer, but just in-case, you can know a few tricks in case they’re not good at directing.

Sneak Peak Tip One: Window lighting in your bedroom can create a beautifully romantic image. Wearing colors that compliment the space will tie the picture together. In the image of Jina below, her bed has all white sheets/blankets so she chose a white blouse while Mike used only natural window light to create a soft portrait.

Sneak Peak Tip Two: Turning your body away from the camera can help slim down your body, and create beautiful line. This image of Lauren she’s leaning completely against the angles tree so her belly is accentuated!

Newborn Tutu | Meet Leila – Atlanta Newborn Photography

We have a beautiful history with Lori and Winston, from their wedding to their elegant maternity session. Now we welcome into the mix their beautiful baby girl, Leila. Lori had a vision for Leila’s first photo-shoot which included lots of pink monogram and an adorable newborn tutu! As with any newborn shot, getting the baby to sleep is the most important part, so the actually session can turn into a waiting game. But the wait is always worth it and Leila was a snuggly little example of that. At first when we arrived she was awake and ready to go, but it took her a long to time to find that deep sleep that makes for the pose-able newborn images. But new-mom Lori new what to do, and Leila was soon fast asleep. So asleep she didn’t seem to mind when we dressed her up as the cutest little lady bug West Atlanta has ever seen! We can wait to be a part of your life Leila and to photograph all your future endeavors! Welcome, little Leila!

Atlanta Family |Meet the Hoeflich’s

The Hoeflich’s are one awesome Atlanta family! This family is all over the world but you can still see how close they are despite it all. You would think that all live right next to each other and see to each other everyday. Mr. and Mrs. Hoeflich are celebrating their 50th anniversary and wanted to commemorate it with a family picture with their daughters and their daughter’s families. This was a wonderful time because while one their daughters lives in Georgia, the other one lives in South Africa and also the parents themselves live in San Diego, California. This family reunion was a beautiful time for everyone. This also allowed for an opportunity to recreate an old picture taken of the father with his two daughters. The only thing better than reminiscing about old memories is being able to create new ones.

Hollywood Maternity Shoot| Anna + Edward – Atlanta Maternity Photography

For her second child, Anna reached out to me to have a photo shoot done with an old Hollywood Maternity feel. I have known Anna and her sister for four years. They have assisted in modeling for the numerous workshops I put on throughout the year. In the span of those four years, I have photographed a lot of important moments in Anna’s life. She loves her family and could not imagine a day without them. Anna and Edward are a beautiful Russian couple with so much love to give. I was honored to have done a photo shoot for her first child, both maternity and newborn style shoots. The shoot was fun especially with a two year old running around. It is amazing how useful candy can be to get a two year old child to cooperate. Enjoy these this maternity pictures with an old Hollywood flair!

Birth Newborn Photography | Meet Beau – Family of 7

I have had the pleasure of knowing the White family for a while now. I have photographed not only the birth of each one of their children, but also their newborn shoots as well. So another birth newborn photography shoot, they new exactly who they were going to call. With baby Beau being baby number 5, I went into the shoot thinking I’d know exactly what to expect but oh how things were different. Beth has always had smooth deliveries but this one was a little different. Beth had horrible migraines at the end of her pregnancy, and they continued through labor. They almost had to do an emergency C-section, but thankfully baby and mommy worked together and they were able to have a fifth natural birth. Beth and Brian kept the gender of baby Beau a secret throughout the entirety of the pregnancy. She would refer to him as “biscuit” as a hint to what they were going to name him. Beau turned out to be their little “Beau”-jangle’s biscuit! Beth and Brian’s four other children were so excited to meet their new baby brother. No matter how big this family gets, they still have a lot of love to give. We made sure their photo shoot really showed the love they have for each other. We even captured some beautiful moments of all the siblings together. Beth and Brian are two of the most genuinely nicest people I have ever met. Even though they have experienced so much together as a couple, they still act as though they just got married yesterday. The love Beth and Brian have for each other is amazing. Their gorgeous family has welcomed me with open arms into their home. It almost feels as though I am a part of this family now. I am so excited to see what the future has in store for them. Beau is very lucky to have been born into such an awesome family.

Meet Lauren, our beloved country senior! I have known Lauren’s family for many years. I took Lauren’s two older sisters senior pictures a few years ago, so carrying on with the tradition we did her senior shoot as well! This bubbly senior wanted something different from her sister’s shoots. We took her to this very large estate, where we captured shots that encompassed both nature and elegance. She couldn’t have been more thrilled about the location. And if you couldn’t already tell how amazing this senior is she is also a talented dancer, so we had her break out her best moves! You can see her glowing personality shine as we captured her passion. She definitely has a bright future ahead of her!

Georgia Newborn Photography | Meet Simone

Oh, our hearts were not ready when we met Simone, our newest Georgia Newborn Photography subject. A few months ago we photographed her gorgeous parent’s for the elegant maternity session.All expectant mothers are beautiful as they seem to radiate joy of what’s to come, but Luciaetta took it a step beyond that. She was absolutely breath taking in her purple and red dresses. You’ve got to take some time to check out her maternity blog. But now that Simone has entered the world, all eyes are on her. We traveled to their home to capture their smallest member of the family. I’m so glad we travel out to the homes of our clients, because then we get to see what special touches have been made to the nurseries. Lucaietta and Chris had found awesome Marquee lights in Simones name! They were the perfect backdrop for a few solo images of Simone. Indoor Newborn Photography | Meet Baby Zara

It’s nice to take a break from outdoor maternity photography and go inside to capture some stunning indoor newborn photographs. The photographs of Zara’s parents from their maternity session are a literal must see to believe the beauty. Treat your eyes with some magic and check out their outdoor maternity shoot. We are happy to say that baby Zara Shah has entered the world and we were honored to be able to photograph her first few days of age. She is a bundle of joy which has already brought so much happiness to her parents. The photo shoot was amazing! Zara was so calm and the whole family is already filled with so much love for each other, capturing their love and joy was a piece of cake. Photographing those moments of family tranquility wasn’t hard. Indoor Newborn photography can sometimes be a challenge if the family’s home has limited lighting, but that’s why it’s so important to know what you’re doing and how to create light when there isn’t a natural source. All good things must come to in end as baby Zara will become even more lovely as she grows with each passing day. But to be able to always look back at these moments with their sweet little nugget is something Henna and Ashan will treasure. Newborn Family Photography | Meet Ashlan

This beautiful Newborn Family Photography shoot was of the Fiss Family. I have known this family for 6 years now and have photographed each of their beautiful babies as well as their family photos over the years. It is always exciting to meet a new addition to their family. This shoot was definitely an interesting. Although it seems like everything was taken at the same time it was not. We had a mini newborn shoot first (these usually last around 3 hours but this one lasted 1.5) then a family shoot a week later. And to top it off, I came back three months later to photograph the growth of the handsome Ashlan. It is always amazing to see a baby after you haven’t seen them in a little while. They grow so fast!

The Stamey family is one of my favorite clients! They come back every year and always have the most adorable session in mind, which is nice because we like to always offer our clients something new and different, and that gets harder when you do family portraits for them year after year! This is the Stamey Family’s fifth year doing family photos with me. I can’t believe I’ve been taking pictures of Elizabeth since she was just one year old! Now she’s a precious six year old that attends High Meadows School. This school is so cool! Each child has their own garden, and on the property they have horses, chickens, goats, and a bunch of other animals that the kids get to take care of! So we went to the school because it’s a big part of the families life, and we like to tell the stories of our clients in our pictures!

Moreland Photography is proud to present our new addition to our Senior Moreland Photography family, Ms. Marsadies. This wonderful young lady is graduating from Langston Hughes High School and about to start a new, very exciting chapter of her life. She’s leaving behind a world of being crowned Miss Langston Hughes High a very high honor at the high school. No matter what college she does chooses to go to, in the end she will excel just as she has now and if not, she will only do better. Marsadies was on the volleyball team in her high school and was homecoming queen for her graduating class. She is a well rounded and charismatic person who will do amazing wherever life takes her. We had a blast getting to know you during your senior session and know you are going to do huge things in this world! Congratulations!

Posing Large Families – Schroll Reunion

Love is filled with big and little moments and I can say the Schroll is a great example! The Schroll Family came together to celebrate Judy and John Schroll’s 50th Anniversary of marriage. With this big day, their five daughters brought their husbands and kids into the fray of celebration. Posing Large families can be challenging but Moreland Photography can do it with ease. With everyone present, we had to pose this family of 24 to fit in one 8×10 frame! We did a couple different set ups, using the ground and the fence as a place to create different levels of space. We also photographed each daughter’s family individual, letting each family get a new family picture! The families smile with enthusiasm and a hint of reunion to take the time to enjoy each other’s and the grandparent’s presence. Their candid laughter gives you a feeling of happiness and reminds us all of the importance of family no matter what. Judy and John have set the foundation, and keep their children and their families connected through years of love and investment. Long distance can be tough, but staying connected like their tightly held hands promises that distance means nothing when you are still close in heart. Speaking of heart, how can we forget such an amazing sight? Mr. and Mrs. Schroll have dedicated a lifetime covenant that clearly still burns brightly like the sun! Lassiter Senior |Christine – Class of 2016

This Lassiter Senior is graduating in style. Christine is a wonderful young lady bound for amazing things. She came to my team and me to get photos done to commemorate this important milestone in her life. How could I possibly turn that down! After meeting with her, I found out that she is a HUGE Yankees fan, she loves her dog, and she is the manager of the wrestling team. We incorporated all these into her photos to help create the story that best describes Christine. Overall, she wanted a natural causal feel to her photos so we focused on having her immersed in nature. As we were going through all of this, I found out about a picture she has taken when she was a little girl so of course we had to recreate the picture. This is a beautiful moment not just for her but also for her parents. And to help put icing on this wonderful cake, we had put together a graduation book for her to look back on to remind her of everything she has and will accomplish.

Atlanta Newborn Photographer – Meet McKenna

A few month’s ago we photographed sweet Danielle as she was expecting her first baby. Mike Moreland, the premiere Atlanta Newborn Photographer, marveled at the opportunity to photography Danielle’s precious new baby, McKenna. It’s best to photograph newborns 6-10 days after their born, before they start to find their limbs and get all stretchy. Danielle had previously mentioned wanted to visit the same locations from her maternity shoot, and recreate some of the shots we took while she was pregnant. Her images turned out fantastic, be sure to check out her blog on those. So we took sweet newborn McKenna out into the world for her first photoshoot. We visited all the locations from the first shoot, though this time we took much more time getting the baby set up to make sure she was perfectly safe and warm at all times. Now that we’ve completed her maternity and newborn photoshoots, we designed a custom table book for their family to cherish for years to come. We’ve posted that album at the bottom of this post, so make sure you see that as well. Now, we invite you to enjoy baby McKenna.

Family Fun Plus One | Elleby Family Focused Maternity

I had the pleasure of working with Ryan and Laura for their first maternity shoot when they were pregnant with their first baby, Nixon. It was so nice to see them again as we planned for their second child, but this time Laura wanted a family focused maternity session! As usual, it was a delight to photograph them. When they were pregnant with Nixon, they wanted a more glamorous shoot. This is very common for couples who are pregnant with their first child. With this shoot, they wanted to feature young Nixon. They decided to keep it quick and simple. This concept worked well especially since Nixon is still an energetic toddler. This family focused maternity shoot was so much! The day could not have been more perfect. The sun was out and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. We scouted out the perfect little field that was so open and inviting that it made the aura of the photo shoot that much more warm and exciting. And the photos we captured were so gorgeous! We had a meltdown and a tantrum or two as toddlers often have, but despite that, Nixon did great. It took a bit of coaxing at times, but the end result turned out so great. You could really tell how truly excited he was to finally become a big brother and for his new little sister to arrive. It was nice to be able to capture the love these two share for not only their son and future daughter, but also for each other. Being able to witness such a love among a small family is what makes little moments like these bring such joy to my heart. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this beautiful family and, of course, we also can’t wait to meet sweet baby Reese!

River Ridge High | Class of 2015 – Aleah

Aleah is graduating today! That is right, she is about to walk out and get her diploma and will be a River Ridge High graduate. We loved photographing Aleah’s Senior shoot, not only because she is beautiful and we went to some cool locations, but because she interned for us one semester at school and has modeled for us at several of our photography workshops. So she not only looks great in front of the camera, but Aleah is a very talented and creative photographer. For her Senior shoot we took her to some cool urban locations, beautiful outdoor locations and let her just have fun! We wanted to balance out her shoot with half nature backdrops and the other half with urban and texture backdrops. We started out at our studio and Moreland Photography, headed to an English Garden, shot around Vickery Creek in Roswell and ended up in Historical Roswell. Enjoy

UGA Senior- Lindsey Class of 2015

I’ve been a photographer for most of my life and after doing it so long I have to say my clients do start to feel like family to me. Today I am going to tell you about one college Senior I recently photographed. I have been photographing her and her family for years and couldn’t be happier when I got a call one day from her mom asking me to photograph Lindsey again. She is now a UGA senior/graduate and it was very exciting to photograph her again after having just done her High School Senior photo shoot four years ago.

Finally it was the day of the photo shoot and my assistant/daughter, Claire and I met Lindsey and her mom at the Arches of UGA and prepared for an amazing photo shoot. It was a beautiful day for Senior pictures and we were all excited to get started. Lindsey and her mom were awesome clients and made the photo shoot go by fast as we had such a great time. Lindsey was very photogenic as you will see in her photos.

Graduating Sisters – Rebecca and Jacquelyn

What a year for the Terrell family, two graduating sisters! Both Terrell sisters, Jacqueline and Rebecca, are graduating — one from high school and one from college. They wanted to do a joint shoot for their graduations, for things with two are always more fun than just one. As we talked in our consultation meeting, though, it became apparent that they had very different ideas of what kind of locations and themes they wanted. Rebecca, the oldest, wanted an urban, edgy, modern look but Jacqueline wanted scenery that was more romantic and flowery. So, Mike found locations that could provide both girls with the feel they were going for. Since the graduating sisters absolutely loved their pictures, they ordered a custom design coffee table album. Be sure to check out the custom album design at the end of the post! Without further ado, the graduating sisters, Rebecca and Jacquelyn!

Our first location was at a waterfall. Mike put Rebecca against backgrounds that had rock and metal, giving her the edgy look.

At the same location, Mike chose trees and greenery for Jacqueline.

And then, of course, we had to capture the two of them together.

Next Mike found an industrial area and a bridge that was perfect for Rebecca.

And he went to a second location, a lovely garden for Jacqueline.

After seeing different locations, the girls decided that they liked some of the locations chosen for the other sister, so we had a great time mixing up the background and just having fun!

The sisters also had our designer a special book for them and a long card, which folds out like an accordion. These are the memories that will last a lifetime! We loved the challenged of designing an album for two sisters, with two different ‘looks’ and still creating a cohesive beautiful album for the family to cherish!

They have also modeled for one of my workshops! This couple wanted a very simple and laid back shoot for Liam. So we decided to make their home the location for their timeless newborn photography.. We wanted to capture dad’s passion for music, and what better way to do that than to put his lovable newborn baby boy on his guitar, he looked so comfortable! We had Liam’s big brother Lucas join in on the fun as well,I’m sure he loved his adorable present waiting for him at the door. Welcome to the world baby Liam!

Senior Football Photography – Greg 2015

Want to see some fierce football photography? Check out this awesome guy’s gristly seniors portraits! Greg, center for the Lassiter Trojans football team, is the youngest of his siblings. His older brother and sisters came to Mike Moreland photography for their senior portraits. Now, following in their footsteps, Greg came to us when his senior year began! This all-star athlete loves nothing more than to be on the field or in his killer truck. Naturally, we started our shoot on the field to take some classic football photography. Layered in Lassiter’s brilliant red and gold, I was able to capture some intense photos of Greg inside “The Frank” football stadium. These dramatic football photography pictures truly exemplify his passion for football! However, we also wanted to portray Greg as the cool and collected guy that he is. Continuing outdoors, we moved into the woods to create a relaxed but masculine look. Sunlit trees, mossy stones and rugged bark helped our idea come together perfectly. But, we couldn’t forget about his second love – his beauitful, blue truck. Out in a lush meadow of greenery, I posed Greg against the silver grill of his Dodge. The football star looked proud aside his American made pickup. It was a pleasure to able to photograph Greg, both on and off the field. His portraits really serve as a reflection of what he’s all about!

Urban Senior Photography – Cady 2015

Roswell High School senior, Cady, knew exactly what she was looking for when it came time to take her senior portraits. She wanted an urban, rustic look but still desired to incorporate the beauty of nature. With a little team work, we designed her photo shoot around her ideal vision. We started on a beautiful rustic railroad track that was hidden away within a nearby forest. In her crisp white dress and her chic cowgirl boots, we were able to snag some great images of this senior (thankfully, without any trouble from passing trains!). We also took advantage of a grungy brick wall at the train station to continue with our urban aesthetic. Coincidentally, the wall complimented Cady’s boots and her brilliant blue eyes perfectly. As our adventure continued, we reconfigured our vision for Cady’s photos and decided to try something a that incorporated even more nature and sunlight. Back at our five acre studio, Cady was all smiles. Between the tire swing and the tall grass, we grabbed some fantastic shots of this senior. Cady’s urban senior photography shoot was a blast. Have you ever met someone with a contagious smile? Well, meet our friend Anna! Anna is one of those people who makes the world a brighter place! She loves life and isn’t afraid to share her happiness. This Mount Pisca senior wanted her portraits to be full of smiles, glitter and fun! From her curls to her pearls, Anna exuded all things happy on the day of her senior portrait shoot. In her photos, I made sure to get plenty of expressive movement. Outstretched arms, twirls and laughter were key in capturing images that could truly express her personality. There was also never enough glitter photography for Anna! Between the glittering sun and her beautiful glittering gown, it’s hard to ignore the way her photos sparkle! Not to mention the cool glitter photography we snagged of Anna’s rainbow glitter, that added a little extra shine to the field. Anna also has two vivacious dogs who just had to have their photo taken too! Her furry, photogenic companions had smiles and personalities as big as hers. This is Meredith, our Country Girl Senior! I have been photographing Meredith’s family for many years, so when they called to set up Meredith’s senior shoot I was more than thrilled! This country girl wanted something very outdoorsy for her senior shoot, so I made sure to find stunning locations that fit her style! We started the shoot at her house, capturing her in the beautiful grassy fields, and posing her on these large gorgeous boulders. You can definitely tell that she was in her element. Later on in the day we headed to a sunflower field that I came across. Meredith was more than delighted to take some shots here. It also had a barn on the property, which we put to good use! It was a pleasure to capture such an event in Meredith’s life. Best of luck at Auburn, Meredith!

Roswell Senior Portraits – Shannon 2015

Roswell High School boasts a plethora of phenomenal students from all walks of life. Within the classroom or on the field, the Hornets truly excel. Recently, we got a chance to know an amazing Roswell senior. Shannon, cheerleader, member of the national honors society and Duke acceptee, is one of those amazing Hornets who seem to defy the odds! She is involved in several organizations throughout Roswell High School but she also loves to help serve her community. Shannon volunteers in tutoring elementary and middle school children and is a leading member of the Pennies for Patients fund at her school. Shannon and her family are a great bunch who are familiar with our work here at Mike Moreland photography. After contacting us for their family portraits and their eldest son’s senior portraits, we were flattered to work with them again when Shannon’s senior year came around. During our pre-photo shoot consultation, Shannon told us of all the brilliant ideas she had in mind for her senior portraits. She wanted very soft, natural looking senior portraits that incorporated lots of sunlight, straw fields and greenery. Of course, per Shannon’s request, that’s exactly what we gave her! Having done the maternity shoot for his mother, I got a feel for the type of family these people were and I can tell that when they love, they love deeply. Spencer is going to be a happy baby because his parents are so great! Even brand new to this world, Spencer was amazing during the shoot. He was a natural in front of the camera. Although most of the pictures show him asleep, he was awake in between and was always looking around, curious of the world. Baby Spencer, may your life be filled with wonder and adventure!

Heather and Christian came to us with a vision for her Maternity Photography session. She wanted images that would wow her friends and family. So we pulled out all the stops, taking her to our favorite places to capture a very versatile maternity session. From rolling hills to a dramatic water fall her maternity photographs are going to have everyone talking until their cute little nugget steals the show. My favorite images are the ones at the end of the shoot. We asked Heather to bring a tight fitting dress and if she was willing to stay out just past sunset. With a few camera settings later you’ve got the most dramatic romantic maternity pictures of the year! We can’t wait to see the adorable baby these two will welcome into their family. Sweet Anna is a repeat client at Moreland Photography. She has had our backs modeling at numerous Creative Edge Photography Workshops. When she was pregnant she did an eye-opening maternity session, that inspired several other maternity sessions like Laura’s Maternity images on the Chatahoochee and Myrlan’s with her daughter.

Fast forward a little bit and we’ve got the set up for some adorable christmas photos! Anna’s husband works odd hours so our only real opportunity was at night during the week. So, we had to get creative with our studio lighting skills! We love how these turned out! It’s always so much fun when our clients really get into the photography, Anna brought Christmas lights to get tangled up in!! We were also celebrating the little ham’s first birthday! What a great time to remember family photos!

Posing Large Groups | Knaul Thanksgiving – Moreland Photography

Hello Knaul Family! You know what’s so wonderful about Thanksgiving? Family time! People who don’t live anywhere near each other travel long distances to come together. That’s exactly what this large family did! They scheduled a time when they would all be together, which doesn’t happen often enough, and they came in for some updated family photos! Unfortunately, they chose the coldest, windiest morning of the year, which happened to be the day after thanksgiving! Since they had a large group we though we’d start at a large open field! Though the sun was extremely harsh, we were all very thankful for it. They don’t look cold below, but they are good actors! After conquering the challenge of posing large groups, my second shooter started running around with the kids just to warm them up! They had a leaf throwing fight where she was able to capture some fun candids! But then the children started getting very cold, so we headed back to the studio to warm up! Once we got there, we headed back outside, but this time near the barn where the barn and the trees would shield us from some wind! After all that time spent in the cold outdoors we finished the session indoors and captured every possibility of family shots: all the ladies, just the boys, etc. Thanks for coming by Knauls! Can’t wait to see how those kids have grown next year!!

On a very windy November afternoon, we roamed an area of Midtown Atlanta in search for the perfect combination of grid lines, concrete and an urban vibe! Young Warren Jr. was quite the character, playing it up to the camera the whole time! We started with a black and white image, but just wait until you see this family’s choice for wardrobe. When you’re little and you have brothers and sisters, you go through moments of love and laughter and also through moments of “get out of my face, I never want to see you again.” All siblings, everywhere, go through this. But an amazing thing happens when you grow up. It’s no longer about fighting over the tv, or grossing out because someone touched your things. The relationships with your brothers and sisters becomes something unique. Family life.

The Strawn Family is all grown up now. With three beautiful children all in college and away from home, we had a small window of opportunity to plan a fall family session. So the morning after thanksgiving we set out to capture the family at the current stage! We made sure to get beautiful portraits of everyone individually, even mom and dad. Because life is precious, and we take pictures of our loved ones too infrequently! Whether your children are 8 or 18 or 48, don’t forget time to take a family photo. Time flies too fast to say “I’ll do it later.” Soon the kids who went to college out of state are moving even further away. You need those pictures from Thanksgiving and Holiday breaks! Here is the long awaited second half of Anna’s Maternity Session! And can we just say it was worth the wait? We started at the Chattahoochee river for a fabulous creative maternity photo session! After that we went for a 360 turn around and headed to the field. Anna had some beautiful vintage furs she thought would be perfect for this theme! We like to think of this maternity session as more Fashion Maternity Photography. Anna is make such a beautiful mom-to-be! We are so in love with these images from her Atlanta Maternity Photography session! The fall sunlight was just beautiful in the pine trees, combining that with the warm fur coat and we had plenty of magical moments to choose from! A Beautiful Family at a Country Fair | Type 1 Diabetes

Get ready for a fun blog pictures! For the Cochran Family we headed a country fair this fall for their annual family pictures! Imagine the smell of popcorn, roasted peanuts, funnel cake, cotton candy! Our blog post, however, is going to be more of a spotlight on young Katherine! Katherine has been recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. But Katherine is full of life and as vivacious as ever! We went to the fair for the chance to get away from anything that might be weighing the family down! There’s nothing is more fun than merry-go-rounds and ice cream! Katherine and her family are part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). They have a great website to raise money for research and awareness to prevent and cure Type 1 Diabetes. The best chance of curing a disease is to raise awareness. The more people that know about Type 1 Diabetes, the more support and funding families like the Cochrans receive. Any amount helps. Give to the JDRF this season and spread the gift of hope and awareness about Juvenile Diabetes! And in the meantime, we hope you enjoy this adorable and very fun family pictures!

Roswell Senior Portaits | Sean Class of 2014 – Moreland Photography

Say hello to Sean! Sean is an awesome Roswell Senior! He plays instruments of many kinds, including the electric guitar and drums. If you asked me though, I’d say his passion is all kinds of music, especially any with an eclectic vibe! So for his senior guy portraits we headed to none other than a location that meant a lot to him and his dad! They’d go here a lot for concerts, good food and just to discover new things! We traveled all around the backs of buildings and into alleyways! You never know what you might find! And boy, did we find! So much amazing graffiti! Not to mention the free sound check by the band HANSON! Sean’s family is originally from Boston so naturally we had arguments on who was better, the Red Sox or the Braves. We all know who won that debate! Sean brought a lot of clothing options; surprisingly, every time we changed an outfit we would stumble upon the perfect backdrop and setting for the colors and style clothing he had on! Roswell Family | The Stamey’s

I have been photographing this wonderful Roswell family every year since Elizabeth, their daughter, has been 2. After every photo shoot, a book is made to commemorate that year in Elizabeth’s life as well as a family cards. It is always a fun challenge to find different locations so the pictures are not all in the same places. One key part of all their photo shoots is that Elizabeth takes some photos with her bear which was passed down to her from her mother. It is a deeply sentimental piece that is of the connections this mother-daughter duo has. I look forward to photographing the Stamey’s every year and this year was no different. Some changes as Elizabeth has gotten older are the different activities she loves. This year it’s soccer! So we coordinated our Calendars and I was welcomed at one of Elizabeth’s soccer games! I can’t wait to see what 2016 brings!

You cannot say enough wonderful things about this family! The Williams came to me ready for a family photography session with their (almost) one year old, Maddux. The first part of the session was a struggle to get Maddux happy. She was not in the mood for her debut photo op! After a while though, she warmed up to the camera, and was laughing and having a blast! The lighting was perfect! They had wonderful clothing choices! Not to mention the adorable moments we captured as forever keepsakes! They are sweet moments that happen so quickly! These are photos that we will cherish, they remind us of how fast childhood flies by! So you must enjoy every minute, even when all they do is scream and cry! Hey Tristan! Welcome to Georgia! We endured a typical hot sunny southern summer day for your high school senior shoot! We started out with some great shots in his Lacrosse apparel. Skipped over to the Roswell Mill for some scenic casual shots. Then switched gears to an urban setting to get that awesome bad boy look! After all that we still weren’t done! It was to Downtown Atlanta we go! I think Tristan already looks like a post college grad in those upscale pictures towards the end! Regardless, we had a great time with all the different settings, and the challenges the weather threw at us! Not only does he have amazing parents, but they set him up in a decked out Top Gun themed Nursery. Nixon was well behaved the whole time. We captured some incredible images of this family so in love!

Tiffany + Jason {Roswell, Atlanta Couples Portrait Photography}

This summer, here at Moreland Photography, we hosted a wonderfully talented and lovely UGA Photography Major, TIFFANY! Tiffany helped us out immensely this summer from assisting, second shooting and most of the navigation on all of our websites was inspired by her design! We were terribly sad to see Tiffany off earlier this month but we want her to know she is always welcome back here!! As a small token of our appreciation Mike asked Tiffany and her boyfriend Jason if they’d like to do a photoshoot. Here are the resulting images from their casual couples shoot in Downtown Roswell.

Meet the Green family! We kept our cameras clicking when this lovable bunch came for their session- we had so much fun walking around the property capturing their personalities. Lindsey brought along her cousin- also a great friend of hers- so we had the girls walking, talking and having fun. The Green’s love to bike ride together so when we heard that we pulled out bikes and had them playing around on them on the green lawn. Later we went down to Roswell’s Historic Area and took some more pictures of the girls in their fun dresses. check it out!

Austin | Roswell High School {Roswell Senior Photography}

Mike, Tiffany and I loved capturing Austin’s personality for his Senior pictures. Like his brother, Zach, who came to us last year when he was senior, Austin had no problem taking direction and doing whatever we wanted for a shot. Whatever it takes to get pictures! When the gates were locked we found another way to get on the field for some shots of Austin with his LAX gear. Mind you, this was the first day of the heatwave here in Atlanta this past June, so we had to get down to the mill and cool off a bit! We were all about to jump in after the shoot! The day before the shoot, Mike drove out to meet Austin at the BMX course where he rides- it was really cool to get some action shots and see how extreme BMX riding really is!!

Nick was a trooper when we photographed him for his senior shoot, not only is he a star player for BT basketball but he always looked great in front of the camera. We went urban and did some cool shots for him and then of course had to include his basketball shots into the mix.
