Mattasia’s creative underwater maternity shoot was nothing less than magnificent. Any shoot in Atlanta in late October can mean some pretty chilly weather for any shoot, but Beach had no problem jumping right in on Halloween! During Beach’s consultation we assessed the goals she had for her shoot, and so we made sure that we would make this creative underwater maternity shoot yield as many unique images as possible. On her big day, we had her bring some fancy shoes, and we provided the rest!
We have 15 (and counting) beautiful maternity gowns to choose from, and lots of fabric to mix and match with. Mattasia chose some of her favorite colors and a red fabric as a compliment. Our first 30 mins were spent in a coaching session on how to look as graceful as possible. What we like to tell all of our underwater models is that the trick to great images is not to look like you’re swimming, but instead like you’re doing ballet or dancing underwater.
Mattasia took our advice to heart, as you can see how truly beautiful she looks posing underwater. Using some of his photography tricks Mike captured images ranging from a light blue to a dark blue, to a black underwater background! As she went through a bunch of different types of poses, we had multiple assistants with us to make sure Beach looked her very best. Sometimes they would be holding out the fabric for an angelic look, moving the hair away from her eyes as she went under, and sometimes lightly pushing her down in order to stop her from floating to the surface too early.
From the beginning of the shoot to the end Mattasia looked nothing less than magnificent as she danced around the pool. Retouching underwater images takes a lot of attention to detail, as pool drains and bubbles can sometimes detract from the feel of the shoot. We made sure every single image was picture perfect and were delighted to seeMattasia’s reaction. We had a great time shooting her’s creative underwater maternity session and wish her all the best in motherhood!
