Hey there rising senior! I’m a graduate from Milton High School, and I want to start off by saying that I couldn’t be happier that I chose Moreland Photography for my rising senior shoot. He’s been a photographer for more than 30 years, and his team of assistants made me laugh and get comfortable during these shoots!
Rising Senior
Although I had to get my cap and gown pictures done by a school contracted photography company, I’m glad I didn’t go with them for my casual pictures. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories from my senior friends (hating their pictures, waiting months for them, unclear pricing packages, inexperienced and impersonal photographers, etc.). I decided that if I was going to get my pictures taken, I might as well get them done right!
I wasn’t sure of exactly what I wanted at first, except that I like nature and unique textures. I sat down with Mr. Moreland and with that vague idea he knew the exact locations for what I had in my mind’s eye. Below are some of the different locations we went to throughout the year!
Sunrise at the Lake
I met Mr. Moreland and his team 30 minutes before sunrise at a large lake surrounded by greenery. You could see fog coming off of the lake and hear wildlife while we were shooting. It was the perfect nature and scenery background!
I wore a tie-die blue and pink dress to compliment the blues and pinks of the morning. As the sun started to rise, he started to shoot.
I had a lot of fun dancing around the lake with the stylistic guidance of his assistant! I love nature, and my favorite part of these pictures is how dramatic the lake looks and the reflections of the trees in the water.
As the sunrise faded into full blown sunshine we transitioned to my next outfit, college gear!
I’ll be attending Ohio University in the fall, so capturing this next step in my journey was important to me.
Underwater Shoot
I was on swim team for some time, so when Mr. Moreland suggested an underwater shoot it seemed like a great idea. Before the shoot, he advised me on the types of things that would create a dynamic look. I first wore casual clothes, and it was fun to see how cool everyday clothing looked underwater.
Because it’s a pool, of course we had to get some in swimwear! I wore a simple black bikini, and Mr. Moreland livened up the simplicity with a pale yellow cloth.
Lastly, I got to choose from his selection of maternity dresses (pinned up) for a mermaid-like look.
Garden in the Spring
You can’t have a love of nature and not get some pictures taken in a garden! Even though this walkway hadn’t flowered yet, I loved the vines and background.
It’s definitely hard to choose, but this is one of my favorite pictures. I love the magical look that he achieved with the lighting and how it livens up these pictures.
You can also bring a friend to your shoot!
Historic Hall
Why not wear a sweater in July? I started with my favorite sweater and pair of Converse and then transferred to an airy dress halfway through the shoot.
River and Interesting Textures
Snowy Field in the Winter
It was cold outside, but I definitely don’t regret it. I chose from his collection of flow-y dresses and his assistants helped to create “wind” by holding the end of the dress, releasing it, and then running out of the shot!
